The history of Haapsalu lace spans more than two centuries. This is the only kind of Haapsalu shawl where the lace edging is not sewn on, rather the shawl is knitted in one piece with the lace edging knitted first. Then the main body is knitted following the pattern chart and decreases made in the centre and on both sides.
